Obtaining a NIE

Foreign citizens who have links with Spain due to economic, professional or social interests may be required to obtain a NIE (Foreigner Identification Number), and all parties involved in public deeds are legally obliged by the notary to provide such documentation.

In order to obtain it, you must submit the application in the Consulate of the country of origin or, if you reside in Spain, present it at the Immigration Office or in a police station.

In each case you will be informed of the necessary documentation. As well as filling out several forms, you must write a letter outlining the reasons for applying for the NIE.

For this we suggest using the following template:

"El abajo firmante comunica por la presente que la causa por la que solicita la expedición de un Número de Identidad de Extranjero es para poder suscribir capital de sociedades con domicilio en España

Y para que así conste, firma la presente en ___________, a ___________.

Nombre y firma ______________________________."

(Reading in english as: "The undersigned hereby declares that the reason for which he/she requests the issuance of a Foreigner Identification Number is to be able to subscribe capital of companies registered in Spain.

And so that a record may be made, I hereby certify in ___________, on___________.

Name and signature______________________________.)
